William Ritter retired from the University of Delaware in 2016 after 45 years on the faculty. He was professor of bioresources and environmental and civil engineering and senior policy fellow in the Center Energy and Environment. He has conducted research in nonpoint source pollution, irrigation water management, water quality modeling, livestock waste management, land application of wastes and wastewater treatment. He has served as a consultant to state and federal government agencies, engineering consulting firms, industry and non-profit organizations. He has over 300 refereed journal papers, conference proceedings, book chapters, books, extension publication and technical reports. He is a fellow of ASCE and ASABE and lifetime member of both WEF and AWWA. He has received numerous awards including the ASCE Royce Tipton Award, ASCE Richard R. Torrence Outstanding Editor Award, ASCE-EWRI Jeffery Bradley Service to the Institute Award, ASABE-NAR Young Engineer of the Year and ASABE-NABEC Distinguished Service Award.
