Renata Bura is a professor in the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences at the University of Washington. She received a B.S. in Applied Chemistry and Biology from Ryerson University, a M.A.Sc. in Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry from University of Toronto, and a Ph.D.in Forest Products Biotechnology from University of British Columbia. Her research focuses on bioconversion of lignocellulosic biomass such as agricultural and hardwood biomass into biochemicals, including (1) robust pretreatment processes for mixed feedstocks (agricultural and hardwood residues) and Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation (SSF) of combined streams (water soluble and insoluble); and (2) steam pretreatment and pulping.
