focusing on how to guide the design and management of such systems to address uncertainty and extreme events. I also study the design and the management of “smart” infrastructure systems (so called cyber-infrastructure systems) where I use mathematical modeling and uncertainty analysis to best utilize automated sensing technologies and the vast computational capacity provided by cloud computing technology to design “smarter” infrastructure systems in general and water infrastructure systems in particular. My publications cover modeling methodologies and their implementation to water resources and environmental systems. I also have interests in methodological developments in the field of optimization of large and complex systems and optimization under uncertainty.
