Dr. Yi Liu obtained his B.Eng. in 1985 and M.Eng. in 1988 from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan and Beijing, respectively) and D.Eng. in 2006 from Morgan State University. His concentrations of D.Eng. program in Civil Engineering are Geotechnical Engineering and Hydrology/Hydraulic/Water Resources Engineering. His research interests and expertise include land subsidence, sea level rise and headwater change with global warming, geotechnical engineering and groundwater hydrology. His projects include: 1. Excellence in Research: Identification of absolute sea level rise and land subsidence from long-term tide gauge records along coasts of the Gulf of Mexico and the Chesapeake Bay (NSF). 2. Identification of Urban Flood Impacts Caused by Land Subsidence and Sea Level Rise for the Houston-Galveston Region (NSF). 3. Design and Demonstration of an Arterial-friendly Local Ramp Metering Control System (MDOT SHA) and 4. Use of Dredged Material to Protect Low-Lying Areas of the Chesapeake Bay (MPA).
