Natalia Mora Diaz is an environmental engineer who graduated from the Universidad de Los Andes. She is an undergraduate degree research assistant in the Water Distribution and Sewerage Systems Research Center - (CIACUA) of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Universidad de Los Andes. The undergraduate degree thesis was focused on determining if the optimized design of drinking water distribution networks using the Optimal Power Use Surface (OPUS) methodology allows obtaining designs close to the minimum cost while minimizing costs in the disinfection process. Thus, it was evaluated whether the networks optimized by the OPUS methodology require a lower amount of residual chlorine in the process of transporting and distributing water through the network. This was done in order to evaluate whether the optimization of networks using this methodology allows for obtaining optimal designs both at the constructive and operational level, in this case for the disinfection process.
