PhD Student and Research Assistant
Carnegie Mellon University
Nicola (Nikki) is a PhD student and Research Assistant at Carnegie Mellon University in Engineering and Public Policy. She is also a current Fulbright Fellow. She completed her MS in Civil Systems Engineering and her BS in Civil Engineering, both at the University of Colorado. Nikki studies the impact of infrastructure systems on aspects of equity in low-income areas and the role that policies play in addressing such inequities. Specifically, she studies how infrastructure can be used as a social sensor to help identify marginalized groups who might lack access to resources. She works in the YK Delta in Alaska where she and a team study water delivery systems. She also works in Kigali, Rwanda studying the impact of broadband access on macro-scale healthcare provision. Prior to returning to school for her PhD, she worked as a climate change modeling consultant for the World Bank and several other analytic research firms.
