Professor Wei Ji received a Ph.D. degree, specializing in natural resource management, remote sensing, and GIS, from the University of Connecticut. In the 1990s he conducted research at the National Wetlands Research Center, US Geological Survey. He joined the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) in 1999 where he established GIS and environmental remote sensing education and research programs. Currently, he is a Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences and the Director of the GIS Certificate Program in the School of Science and Engineering, UMKC. Between 9/2016 and 6/2022, he served as Chair of the Earth and Environmental Sciences Department in the College of Arts and Sciences. He has served on editorial boards of many academic journals, including Wetlands (past), Landscape & Urban Planning (current), and Social-Ecological Practice Research (current). He was a US Senior Fulbright Scholar to Germany in 2006.
