Brett Sanders is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning and Public Policy at UC Irvine, where he heads the UCI Flood Lab.
Dr. Sanders earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from UC Berkeley and am M.S. and PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan. He has been on the faculty at UCI since 1997 and he served as Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (2010-2017) and as Interim Associate Dean of Undergraduate Student Affairs (2020-2021). He is also a Fellow of the Engineering Mechanics Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Dr. Sanders has published extensively on computer modeling of shallow flow over the land surface, is he is an expert in the simulation of flood hazards and risks, and a proponent of collaborative flood modeling to promote procedural and distributional justice with infrastructure investments
