Melitza Crespo Medina is Researcher and Associated Professor at CECIA-IAUPR since 2014. In this role she has being part of several studies in small potable water systems in Puerto Rico. Melitza has Co-PI various NSF-RAPID Project to investigate potable water quality in PR following Hurricane MarĂa and in collaboration with US EPA she characterized leachate at different landfills in the Island. She has a BS in Biology form UPR at Mayaguez and a PhD from Rutgers University, New Jersey. Her doctoral and postdoctoral research included the study of microbial diversity and carbon cycle in extreme environments such as deep-sea vents, brine lakes. Internationally she has work in California, Italy, Costa Rica, and research methane oxidation during the 2010 Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill.
