Dr. Imran received his BS degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), MS degree from Washington State University, Pullman, and Ph.D. degree from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. He has been at the University of South Carolina (UofSC) since 1998 as Professor (2009 to present). His areas of specialization are dam-break and levee breach flows and processes, sediment transport, river mechanics, and turbidity currents. He co-led a recently completed NSF Program for International Research and Education (PIRE) project on modeling dam-break and levee-breach floods and currently leads an NSF Leading Engineering for America's Prosperity, Health, and Infrastructure (LEAP-HI) project on data-driven fragility framework for risk assessment of levee breach. He is a recipient of numerous awards, to include the CEC Distinguished Professorship and NSF CAREER Award.
