Room: Off-Site Tour
This is an educational tour of regional flood control facilities (detention basins, channels, storm drains) in the Las Vegas Valley.
For the past three decades, the Clark County Regional Flood Control District has provided nearly $2 billion in funding to design, build, and maintain flood control facilities that protect life and property in Southern Nevada. Everything the Regional Flood Control District does sticks to the overall mission of keeping floods away from people and people away from floods.
In this tour, we will visit the Pittman Horizon Ridge Detention Basin, which was built in 2019 and has a large storage volume capacity of 68 ac-ft to detain runoff from the 100-year storm and protect residents and property in Henderson. We will also visit other regional flood control facilities in the vicinity of the basin and share lessons learned regarding building and maintaining stormwater infrastructure in an urban environment.
