In the face of the water scarcity faced in different regions of Brazil, the practice of water reuse stands as an important tool to manage water resources. This practice reduces water withdraw, improves water quantity and quality for the various uses, reduces conflicts over water use, and contributes to regional socioeconomic development. Strategic evaluation studies of the regional potential must be prepared with well-defined criteria to establish an adequate planning, with a greater possibility of success in the implementation and operation of future projects. Thus, the technical and practical knowledge of the authors were published in four Technical Notes (TN), having as main objective the proposition of a structured methodology for the evaluation of the regional potential of water reuse in Brazil. The present work presents an overview on the technical notes: TN01 contextualizes the theme, presents case studies and the most relevant aspects for the general understanding of the practice of water reuse; TN02 provides essential elements for the planning of water reuse actions, including potential studies, financing modalities and definition of partnerships in the sanitation sector; TN03 presents the planning methodology for conducting regional water reuse potential assessment studies in Brazil, considering aspects of demand and supply of reused water; and finally, TN 04 lists and discusses the various challenges and trends related to the future of the application and institutionalization of the practice of water reuse and its relevance to Brazil.
